The Townshend Audio Seismic Sink Stand is an equipment rack system designed to isolate all Hi-Fi Audio and Video components from ground born vibration. The concept for the Stand derived from that of the original, multiple award winning, Seismic Sink Stand introduced in 1997. This radical product re-wrote the rules on equipment support, which had always insisted on rigid coupling to the floor to “drain away unwanted energy”. The superior performance of the spring suspended Seismic Sink Stand, compared with all rigid designs, showed the hi-fi world how absolutely vital it is to thoroughly isolate all source components from ground-borne vibration.
The Seismic Sink Stand, with its beautiful lines and elegant simplicity, sets a new level of performance, style and practicality. Of minimalist design with the shelf supporting pillars closely spaced at the sides and the suspension mechanism at the bottom. The Seismic Sink Stand allows the equipment to be seen un-obstructed by big bulky pillars common to other designs. Designed to be 100% maintenance-free and manufactured to the highest standards, the Seismic Sink Stand is engineered to last a lifetime.
The ingenious arrangement of uprights and plates, with most compliant load cells at each corner, in conjunction with the mass of the stand (plus equipment), form a stable suspended mass/spring low-pass filter with an attenuation of about 20dB per decade above 2Hz. This ensures that deleterious ground-borne vibrations from 4Hz and above are virtually eliminated. Isolating audio/video components from vibration increases fidelity and imparts an openness and clarity to the sound, with gains in focus and solidity of image, which a non-suspended stand simply cannot approach.
Standard shelves are of polished and toughened safety glass, for appearance and durability. And, contrary to popular belief, the glass does not “ring” as it does on spiked stands because the four point mounting clamps have vibration absorbing pads which form a constrained layer damped assembly with virtually no resonance and once the equipment is in place. Further the rubber feet on the equipment completely eliminate any possibility of ringing. The stand rests on soft plastic feet, which will not harm wood or carpet floors and are easily adjustable for levelling.
Choosing your stand
Size
There are two standard widths of Seismic Sink Stand Size 2, 3 This sale is for size 2 with 2 tiers and 350-500mm deep shelves. Upon purchase we will contact you for your shelf depth requirements.
• Size 2, for equipment measuring up to 490mm
Dimensions | Max usable equipment width | Total stand width |
Size 2 | 490mm | 672mm |
Spacing
To accommodate varying heights of components shelf spacing is infinitely adjustable and shelves may be added or removed without dismantling the stand.
Height
Overall height to the top shelf can be chosen – anywhere from 22cm (9”) to 120cm (4’) by choosing the appropriate shelf gaps for your equipment.
Number of shelves
The number of shelves may be up to 8.
Glass thickness.
The glass thicknesses is 10mm. Other custom thicknesses are available for special order.
The weight of the glass must be included in the total suspended weight.
Glass Colour
Standard glass is clear. Bronze or smoked grey glass are also available.
Stand finish
Upon Purchase we will contact you to establish glass colour, stand metalwork in light grey with stainless steel pipes or black with stainless steel pipes.
SHELF WEIGHT INCLUDES GLASS AND BRACKETS

Please note that all load capacities are approximate, depending on number of shelves in stand and thickness of glass.
Note that the best performance is achieved when the load is as close to the maximum as possible, with the heaviest pieces towards the bottom of the stand.
Extra heavy equipment
It is possible to accommodate very heavy equipment to special order.
Out of balance equipment
It is possible to accommodate out of balance equipment, for example a valve (tube) amplifier with very heavy transformers to the rear.
Delivery and setup
The stands are delivered flat packed with comprehensive easy-to-follow instructions with plain text and ample photographs. Alternatively, for a nominal charge, we can supply the stand ready assembled.

How to order your SEISMIC SINK STAND

General information on all equipment stands.
The height of the shelves in the SEISMIC SINK STAND are user adjustable (see distances ‘g1, g2, etc’ on diagram),
giving complete flexibility to accommodate almost any equipment available.
The shelf gaps are infinitely adjustable, so the number of shelves may be chosen to suit your circumstances.
The height of your stand ‘h’ on diagram, will be the sum of gaps + sum of glass thickness +60mm below the bottom shelf and at least 10mm above the top shelf.

What we need to know
Decide on the width of the stand base you require: size 2 or size 3.
Should you require a larger base size, we offer a ‘design to order’ service, where we aim to fulfil virtually any requirement.
Once you have decided on the width of your new stand, you have a number of choices:
1. The number of shelves required.
2. Total weight of all the equipment you wish to mount on the stand, plus the weight of the shelves (see table).
3. Depth of the glass (front to back dimension ‘d’)
4. Colour of the glass (10mm thickness).
Please note that all load capacities are approximate, depending on depth front to back and thickness of glass used.
